KANADA

Program note

‘KANADA’ , camp’s sorting and storgagesheds, for violin and bass trombone is inspired by a word from the premier Auschwiz Museum in Madrid, Spain. This moment connects to the one of my piece, ‘Take me home’ about victims of terrorism and refusee camps.

Ironically, the word, KANADA, presents CANADA, the country which represents unlimted resources and overflowed goodess.

These connection inspires me to study the background of Jewish songs from the Auschwiz period, and I found a song book called ‘Songs from the depths of hell’ by Aleksander Kulisiewicz who is a survior from the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, which is inspiring musical idea and, the selection of two types of scales is used in Ancient Hebrew songs and traditional Jewish Klezmer(=Misheberakh mode) music in general. Also, these scales are superimposed and added another scales below, inbetween and above the scales by minor third, perfect and augmented fourth intervals to create multiform choices. Based on the concept of the theory, gestures and timbres of the piece freely express by picking random or ordered notes and unfolding heavy emotion with vocalization and theatrical motion.
