Taylor Catarina New York Spotlight on: JinHee Han

I became acquainted with Jin Hee Han's work through Instagram, the great connector of artists! I stumbled upon a clip of one of her pieces: Fantasia on Korean Folk Tunes performed by the Phantom Brass quartet for the Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts. Jinhee serves as Founder/Director for AWCANYC-Asian Women Composers Association NYC- where she collaborates with a variety of talented musicians. An award-winning musician  herself, I knew I wanted to learn more about what living her moment is like for her! Read more for her thoughts on success, confidence and her journey to both, below...

THE NNSF20 INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR SCORES

Yaygara for trumpet solo

CD Publication

Amrine also played a startling work called Yaygara by Jin Hee Han, founder of the Asian Women Composers Association. Staccato sounds on Amrine’s trumpet were joined by breathing, talking, and singsong within the inventive and enjoyable sound world crafted by Han.

Today is the second installment of #composerfeaturefriday
This is a series where I showcase a living composer that I am collaborating with, and their score, accompanied by a #fitpic to highlight the notion that contemporary music is not absent or limited from other mediums of art.
This week I present...Jinhee Han!
