Morning Star

Program note

‘Morning Star for harp solo’, a series of solo instrument, inspired by my own insights of hope, which is symbolized as morning star. At the same time, I found the whishful meaning of methaphorical usage of star from the bible. And, the bible verse of 2 peter 1:19 caught my eyes and it is adopted some words as a main idea of the piece from the script, and made three sub title for three sections as below

I. A light shining in a dark place

II. Until the day dawns

III. The morning star rises in your hearts

This piece sings for hope for children under any struggles and issues of fear, desperation, and to express desire for freedom and peace through the harp as a spoken person against all the negative happenings in the world. So, the title, Morning Star, is symbolized pureness, dream, direction of life, and hope. The musical ideas simply starts from a certain structures of tetrachords and pentachords, which are very delicated in a vast diversity, including one of arabic maqamats relates to Turkish makams, which I use it as a main structure of intervals and scales for themetic gestures in the piece and the reason that I adopted Turkish scale is to remember the war child in the refugees in the middle east. All is combined with western theory to build and express phrases, timbre, atmosphere and eventually, all becomes one story by own experiential insights and thoughts.
